Roshini Davidson has used her Self-Expression and Leadership Programme project to make a difference with street kids in Bangalore. Her project is an ambitious one, combining education, skills training, arts training, raising awareness and medical support to offer children a viable life off of the streets. The Mid Day newspaper wrote a story about it.

Back on the right track

Project Street Smart is a social project by a group of young people who have taken it upon themselves to rehabilitate street children. This is an initiative of Roshini Davidson, and is backed by several individuals from different walks of life from across the country.

We have all witnessed the desolation and the torment in the eyes of every child who lives on the streets. In the last few years, children who beg on the streets have also been forced into trades of sexual exploitation and amputation.

Project Street Smart intends to change this face of our society and give these children the life and happiness they deserve. The team intends to rehabilitate at least 50 children, initially, through education, craft skills and health care.

They also have all the details about the 50 kids who are presently on the streets, for reference and rehabilitation through surviving NGOs and various other support structures. The team also plans on organising a photo exhibition by friends, volunteers and professional photographers to create awareness about street kids among the general public.

As part of the exhibition, they are also planning to hold an open discussion forum where people can interact with NGOs, members of our judiciary system and the police to bring about the required changes on our streets.
