Lesly Comrie, a Landmark Education graduate based in Kamloops, British Columbia, has created Eat out for Education, a project wherein Quiznos Subs franchisees partner with local high school students to raise money for impoverished children. The project, titled “Eat out for Education”, was created in Comrie’s Self-Expression and Leadership Program, and benefits Free the Children, an international aid organization.
The high school students who are partnering with Comrie and Quiznos issued the following statement:
“Eat out for Education is a tangible expression of our gratitude for our primary and secondary education. We aim to pay it forward to children who are denied education for lack of school supplies. The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has shown that just three years of basic education makes a significant difference in … health care knowledge and in a family’s income. In many countries throughout the world, if a child appears at the school’s doorstep without basic educational supplies, he or she is turned away.We are committed to opening the doors of education for other children just as they were opened for us.”
The participating Quiznos’ locations are in Kamloops at Aberdeen Mall and Lansdown Village, and the event is taking place on March 8th. During that day, all profits from sales at those Quiznos locations will be donated to Free the Children, and will be used to purchase school kits for disadvantaged children in a developing country, giving them the opportunity to attend school and break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
